My Road to Rotary

Hello team! As I begin my service as District Governor, I wanted to describe the incredible journey Karen and I have been on for the past couple of years.

My title is borrowed with gratitude from a book of the same name by Rotary founder Paul Harris.

Its starts with a call from then DG Dietrich Bilger telling me I’d been chosen as the District Governor Nominee In November of 2013. “Uh Oh” I remember thinking! “What do I do now? Better buckle up!”

So I started attending every district event I can. Seems easy -- not much to it. Had a great time tagging along with then DG Valerie Perry.

Zone institute and (GETS) Governor Elect Training, We are off to Toronto Canada September 2014. I have my first introduction to my fellow DG16-17 classmates. Great folks, little did we know how close we would become.

Our second Zone Institute Meeting was close by in Providence September 2015, I was tasked with hosting a DGE Class dinner. Great Italian food, everyone had a great time. Rotarians love Providence. Training all day every day, at times overwhelming. Karen was at DG spouse training.

January, 2016, Karen and I head to San Diego for the International Assembly. What a show this was! Every District Governor from around the world was there. Training all day. More training. Just a super exciting time. Did I mention thing were not so easy now? More and more things and responsibilities to deal with.

Now the work really begins as Karen and I along with my trainer PDG Joe Clancy plan the Pre PETS. Assembling approximately 80 binders with pertinent information for the incoming Presidents and Assistant Governors.

Team Team Team!!

Multi District PETS was March of 2016. Over 600 people from districts around New England attend.

May 2016 we have our District Assembly training for club officers, Secretaries and Treasurers at CCRI in Newport.

By the end of May, 2016, I have a 10 day old grandson and we leave for South Korea for the Rotary International Convention. I wonder if Karen is going to get on the plane. Long way from home for Karen and me, but the event is tremendous. Over 44,000 Rotarians are there. First class speakers from around the world. We dance to PSY and Gangnam Style!!! We were hosted by the Gangnam Rotary Club and could not have been treated any better.

While we were in Korea, back home my Installation Committee was working hard putting the finishing touch on the evening. Wakefield Rotary President Spencer Seitz and Assistant Governor Steve White put on an incredible evening. Friends from near and far made the trip. Just a very enjoyable evening for Karen and myself. Best yet it was my birthday and DGN Steve Certa sang Happy Birthday to me in New York Italian style.

With all this training and the huge celebration of the installation, I am ready to go. It's July 1, 2016. Let’s Rock and Roll! I will serve our Rotary membership, Clubs and District the best I can.

Thank you very much for the confidence and trust you have placed with me.
