Rotary Peace Center Alumni - Post-Fellowship Employment

 

Statistics are for all alumni through the 2008-10 class, with the exception of fellows from USAL, which has yet to finish.  These statistics are accurate as of 1 September 2010. 

 

There are 482 peace fellows that have reported their current position to The Rotary Foundation (out of 517 total alumni) or 93%.

 

Of these 482 peace fellows:

 

  • 156 work for NGOs or other peace-related organizations (32%)
  • 95 work for a government agency (20%)
  • 64 are pursuing additional advanced degrees in peace-related fields (13%)
  • 39 are teachers/professors (8%)
  • 31 work in research or academic support positions (6%)
  • 26 work for United Nations agencies (5%)
  • 11 are journalists (2%)
  • 10 are lawyers or work in a law-related field (2%)
  • 9 work for the World Bank (2%)
  • 23 defy easy categorization; these include: bankers, human resource professionals, and business owners (5%)
  • 18 reported they are actively looking for work in the field (4%)

 

Alumni find work around the world:

 

  • 147 reside in North America (30%)
  • 120 reside in Asia (25%)
  • 68 reside in Europe (14%)
  • 44 reside in Africa (9%)
  • 41 reside in Australia and Oceania (9%)
  • 33 reside in South America (7%)
  • 21 reside in the Middle East (4%)
  • 8 reside Central America and the Caribbean (2%)

 

Mr. Jianrong Chen, China, Rotary Peace Fellow, January – March 2009, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bangkok Chinatown, Thailand, District 3350

 

Jianrong is a lecturer and chief of research of diplomacy for the Department of International Relations at Jinan University in Guangdong, China. This March he successfully opened a peace study course Jinan University, the first course of this kind in China. The course is one of the Common Knowledge Courses at the university, meaning that students from different majors can apply for the forty-hour program. Now that he has successfully launched this course, he hopes to promote it to other universities and other cities in China.
