What a wonderful job being District Governor is!! Debbie and I have visited 45 clubs so far and EVERY one has made us proud to be part of this amazing organization. The amount of hours and money we spend making this world a SAFER, CLEANER, HAPPIER place is staggering! We are in awe of the innovative ways Rotarians find to help the less fortunate!

November promises to be very busy with three great events:
  • First we have our annual Providence Bruins Night at the Dunkin Center in Providence on November 9th.
  • Next we have a “Nuts and Bolts” seminar on November 10th at Whites of Westport from 8am to 2pm. This basic training will be offered to all Rotarians.
  • Last but certainly not least We will be having our annual Foundation Dinner at the Rosebrook Event Center in Wareham on November 15th.
Register for any or all of these events at www.Rotary7950.com

We look forward to seeing our old and new Rotary friends at these events because the fellowship we get is as important as the learning.

You don’t have to wait until March 30th to attend the Rotary Leadership Institute in Lincoln, RI. A course is being offered in Enfield, CT on November 10th. Register at rlinea.com under Upcoming Events. A full schedule and more information are available on the Rotary7950.com  web site.

TACKLING SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN 7950
Foxboro Rotarian Mary Graham-Louise has been named chair of the district’s new Opioid and Substance Use Disorder Group. Mary is looking for others who would like to have Rotary step up and tackle the subject of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) in our communities.

This new action group will be a central point to go to for advertising your area events and forums around SUD as well as a place to find resources for those clubs who are looking to do something to help make a difference in this epidemic. Interested? Reach out to Mary at marylapeche@gmail.com or text/call cell 508.212.6208.

GET HELP WITH INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS & GRANTS
Is your club thinking about doing a Global Grant? Do you have an idea but are not sure it will work? Or you don’t know where to start? Our newly formed District International Service Committee is available to help. Contact Paulette Boudrot, pljadmin@comcast.net or call 617-750-7511.
We know some clubs are already involved in International Service Projects. We know the district has technical experts related to the 6 Areas of Focus. We know some of you have the experience of going through the Global Grant application process. But, we don’t know who you are! Look for a survey that will be distributed shortly to help create a District Resource Network database. Thank you in advance for your response

PADRAIG O’MALLEY’S PEACE INITIATIVES
The Rotary Club of Scituate, Ma invites all to attend a screening of The Peacemaker, an intimate portrait of international peacemaker Padraig O’Malley, who helps make peace for others but struggles to find himself. The Scituate club has been supporting O’Malley on his most recent peace initiatives as part of Rotary International’s mission to work for Peace & Conflict Transformation. The screening is Sunday, Oct. 7, at 7:00 pm at the Scituate High School - Center for the Performing Arts, 606 Chief Justice Cushing Highway, Scituate MA. Suggested donation is $10.

STREET PAINTING IN PROVIDENCE
The Rotary Club of Providence invites all to enjoy the imaginative chalk creations at its annual Street Painting Festival Saturday, Oct. 20, noon-5 pm at the Alex & ani City Center on Kennedy Plaza. Special this year: professional chalk artist David Lepore will create a way larger than life portrait of Tom Brady. Admission is free.

GET TO KNOW THE NEXT DG
District Governor-elect Steve Albright and his wife, Jill, are making what you could call a warmup tour, visiting all 65 clubs. “It’s a great opportunity for me to see the different ways our clubs are advancing the mission of Rotary while renewing old acquaintances and making new ones,” says Steve. “I know I’ll feel better prepared to help support the clubs and share winning ideas next year.”

As you know if Steve has already been to your club, he has a great passion for the Rotary Youth Exchange program and hopes to see it grow.

Yours in Rotary service,

Bill
