It's been a beautiful October, with some amazing fall color! We're already more than three months into the Rotary year. Time seems to be flying by as we move from Summer into Fall with much of my time utilized visiting Rotary clubs. I'm enjoying the experience of visiting clubs and have thoroughly enjoyed learning and seeing all the wonderful and meaningful projects that our clubs in District 7950 have completed. The purpose of the District Governor’s “Official Visit” is to share information. The Governor learns more about the clubs and club members learn more about district, regional, and global programs.
We must remember the people who have been negatively impacted by the destruction left behind by Hurricane Ian to the southeastern United States, especially Florida and South Carolina. The hurricane has disrupted many families, destroying homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Many lives have been lost and the search continues for individuals missing and presumed deceased.
The battle in Ukraine continues. Families displaced, homes destroyed, infrastructure victimized by exploding missiles and bombs. Rotary has been assisting and aiding displaced Ukrainians, and people who have suffered significant loss as a result of Ian . The “good works” and assistance to others who are less fortunate makes me proud to be a Rotarian. I hope you share that same sense of fulfillment and passion.
Rotarians throughout the district are meeting in person and enjoying the opportunity to work in person with other Rotarians. Numerous Rotarians have expressed how much they missed the sense of camaraderie, and how much they enjoy the sense of connectedness and engagement with their fellow Rotarians.
There will be several opportunities to network and continue the positive sense of connectedness with other Rotarians throughout the Rotary year (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023). I recommend and encourage you to attend:
- District Foundation Dinner- November 4, 2022 at the Rosebrook Event Center, Wareham, MA beginning at 6pm.
The Foundation Dinner is an opportunity to meet Rotarians from other clubs and to learn more about Rotary Foundation programs, including End Polio Now efforts.
- Rotary Leadership Institute- March 18, 2023 at Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, Bourne, MA.
The Leadership Institute is an educational program which prepares Rotarians for club and district leadership positions. It is a very informative event and provides an opportunity to meet other Rotarians that share the passion of Rotary.
- District 7950 Conference, April 28-30 at Sea Crest Beach Hotel, North Falmouth, MA.
The Annual District Conference offers informational sessions for Rotary club members and officers, the annual business meeting, and opportunities for social interaction among participants. More details to follow.
I want to thank all of you for your participation in Rotary. I look forward to meeting with you in person either at the meeting with your club, or at a district event.
Yours in Rotary service,
David (Dave) P. Sampson
Governor, District 7950
