June, 2018

Dear D7950 Rotarians:

On July 1, I stepped aside as your newest district governor, Bill Tennant, began his year. His partner, Deb, from the Bridgewater Club, will be serving as his administrative assistant. As anyone who knows them is aware, they are ready to roll, and I just know you’ll love them both.

Please know you may continue to contact me if I can ever be of assistance. Thank you to each one of you for all you do for Rotary. It has been an indescribable honor to be your governor.

Toronto International Convention
We just returned from the International Convention in Toronto. Our new Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, addressed the 26,000 attendees from around the globe about our 2018-2019 theme “BE THE INSPIRATION”. As usual, our district was well represented and did us all proud. Check out rotary.org/en/2018-convention-wraps for more.

Next year… Hamburg, Germany, June 1 to 5, 2019

Announcements:

Report on District Designated Funds (DDF):

Thanks to your contributions to The Rotary Foundation three years ago, during the just-completed Rotary Year we awarded over $39,000 in District Grants to D7950 Rotary Clubs for local and international projects, $31,500 in Global Grants for international projects, $30,000 in Global Scholarships and $30,000 to Polio Plus. A detailed report will be on the district web site, rotary7950.com under Foundation, Grant Information soon.

Tree Planting for Environmental Sustainability: Thanks to all the clubs who supported Pres. Ian’s tree planting goal. Our District was responsible for 1,820 trees. Some clubs planted one or two substantial trees in prominent town locations, while other clubs gave two to four hundred seedlings to the elementary school children with planting instructions. Great job District 7950! East Greenwich on the left; Scituate, MA on the right.

Rotary Tent at the 40th Annual South County Balloon Fest: The Wakefield Rotary Club would like to invite clubs from around the district to come and showcase their club, fundraiser, or service project at their 40th Annual South County Balloon Fest. You would be allowed to sell raffle tickets and merchandise, but only to benefit your club or service projects. 15,000 people attend this event from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and other locations. This will also be a great opportunity to work together to recruit members for the district at large. The cost of $100 will provide you with a 6 foot table and space underneath the tent.

Click here to sign up or contact Tarah Warner, 401-589-1321, for further information or if you would like to volunteer to help.

Message from DG Bill Tennant
WOW! Hard to believe a year has passed since Steve Certa became our District Governor! For the last year Debbie and I have been following Steve and his team taking notes and asking questions. We had no idea how much work went into this job! Thank you Steve, Paula and Paulette and team!

As we prepare to take the torch (or gavel) we are thankful the district is in such good shape. We hope to keep improving the ever changing committees and continue to offer the support many clubs need and deserve. We have been asked to help support the special needs community and work to help end the opioid crisis by helping to provide awareness of the issues and opportunities for support.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me or any member of the district or Rotary International if you have any questions or need our support. The most important people in Rotary are the members because that is where all the work is done! The rest of us are there solely to support the clubs. We look forward to a wonderful year and to meeting each and every one of you!

Reminder: District Grant Application
It’s not too late to apply for a District Grant. Money is still available, however, the sooner you apply the better your chance of having your award granted. The Grants Committee will continue to accept applications until there is no money left designated for District Grants or August 15th, whichever comes first. The application, District Addendum and Memorandum of Understanding can be found at rotary7950.com, Foundation, Grant Information.
