There are many people in the community who hit a rough patch and who could benefit from a ‘pick me up’ to help them get through the difficult time. These are folks that may be experiencing something extraordinary - an illness, accident, loss of employment – any life setback.
Several years ago, RC of Fall River PP Jen Preston, shown at left, tuned in to those folks and organized the club to do something to reach out. She called on everyone to submit the name of someone in the community who was struggling - to let them know that they were seen, appreciated and cared for. Each recipient would receive a bucket of chicken gumbo soup, 6 rolls, a $25.00 gift card to a local restaurant plus an inspirational message/note. There are usually around 50 folks identified. Club members are the delivery personnel.
Occasionally, there is an unintended consequence – as when club member Deb Manning’s recipient, who had been diagnosed with cancer, was so moved that he purchased a dozen tulip plants to give back to complete the circle of kindness.
This project is loved by the club and will be repeated for many years, I am sure!
