A Rotary Peacebuilder Club designation is a special recognition for Rotary clubs that actively focus on promoting peace and conflict resolution in their communities and globally. This designation is championed by the Rotarian Action Group for Peace (RAGFP) and aligns with Rotary International's mission to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Through the guided focus of past DG Sharon Johnson, D7950 received this designation via Zoom at the District Conference.

Here's a breakdown of what it entails:
  • Focus on Peacebuilding: Peacebuilder clubs commit to initiating service projects and educational opportunities with a primary focus on peacebuilding. This can involve local, national, or international projects, and can also include supporting Rotary Peace Scholars.
  • Fulfilling Rotary's Mission: Peace has always been a core part of Rotary's mission. Peacebuilder clubs enhance this by modeling civility, addressing polarizing issues, and fostering more harmonious communities.
  • Requirements for Designation: While specific criteria might vary slightly by district, generally, a club needs to:
-Form a Peacebuilder Committee (often with at least two members).
-Have members of this committee join the Rotarian Action Group for Peace (RAGFP).
-Agree to and meet the RAGFP Peacebuilder Club standards.
-Submit a Peacebuilder Club application to the RAGFP.

Did you know there are Benefits to this Designation?
Becoming a Peacebuilder Club can help clubs more powerfully implement Rotary's Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Area of Focus, attract new members who are looking to make a difference and learn new skills related to peacebuilding, increase focus and member engagement by providing a clear lens for projects, potentially provide access to district operating funds and grants for qualified peacebuilding projects, and finally, it can raise the club's profile in the community as a hub for bringing organizations together.

There are Seven Rotary Peace Centers that are situated in different parts of the world. The Rotary Peace Centers offer tailor-made curricula to train individuals devoted to peacebuilding and conflict resolution — no matter where they land. Rotary also offers Rotary Peace Fellowships for dedicated leaders to study at Rotary Peace Centers, developing professionals who become catalysts for peace in various sectors globally. These fellowships are a significant part of Rotary's overall peace efforts.

At the 2025 District Conference for 7950 and 7980, attendees were privileged to experience two deeply moving and inspiring musical performances on different days, courtesy of two Rotary Peace Fellows; David LaMotte, a celebrated author and TEDx speaker, and the masterful cellist, social entrepreneur and conductor, Diego Carneiro.
